Avian Influenza Update

Avian Influenza H5N8 has been confirmed in a small backyard flock of chickens and geese in Norfolk, England. The infected premises is situated within a poultry dense area with 87 commercial premises located within the 10km surveillance zone that DEFRA have put in place.

Specific licensing arrangements relating to the movement into Northern Ireland of poultry which took effect from 9.00 am, Monday 19 December 2016 remain in place.

DAERA would like to remind all poultry keepers and businesses in Northern Ireland of the importance of maintaining good biosecurity in their flocks and to remain vigilant to any signs of avian flu in their flocks.

The best defence is a high level of awareness and to maintain good biosecurity year-round. More information about maintaining effective biosecurity is available on the DAERA website.
