The prime objective of the IRGACT is the conservation of red grouse by empowering and helping local conservation projects on the ground while working with other NGOs and Government organisations in promoting the cause at the national level.
The rural community rallied behind the Trust, with support gained from farming organisations, dog trialling clubs, gun clubs, hawking clubs, ornithologists and the rural communities.

Update of Avian Influenza Restrictions

Trade restrictions introduced on 12th January 2016, following the outbreak of Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza (LPAI) in Fife, Scotland are being lifted with immediate effect from today, Thursday 11th February 2016.
The letter issued on 12th January 2016 detailed the restrictions put in place due to the outbreak of LPAI in Great Britain.

Leading Country Sports Organisations Meet NI Environment Minister on Snares

Representatives from Northern Ireland’s two main countryside organisations, Countryside Alliance Ireland (CAI) and the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), met with NI Environment Minister Mark H Durkan at Stormont. The meeting follows the Minister’s controversial decision not to introduce the draft Snares Order (Northern Ireland) to the NI Assembly in the latter part of 2015. The draft order had been produced by Department officials working in partnership with BASC and CAI back in May 2013.

Additional controls due to Suspected Avian Influenza in Fife, Scotland

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has today issued a letter advising of additional controls being implemented from midnight tonight in respect of imports of poultry and hatching eggs, and movements of ornamental fowl, racing pigeons and captive birds from Great Britain.
