The 2nd annual 'Foxford Gun Club' Sean Wallace Memorial Charity, catch and release fly-fishing competition and social outing was recently held on a beautiful warm summers day. Twenty nine family and friends of the late Sean got together to remember him at his favourite fishing location on Lough Conn.

 Lyall Plant, from CAI, alongside representatives from the Ulster Angling Federation, Ulster Wildlife, PSNI and the NIEA, on the PAW NI stand at the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle over the weekend.

 

CAI are members of the Partnership for Action Against Wildlife Crime (NI) and this was the first year PAW NI had its own stand, jointly run by members from the above bodies. It was a great success and thanks to everyone who visited and took part making badges.

CAI Sponsors Wildlife Photography Competition

Countryside Alliance Ireland is once again sponsoring the John Creedon Memorial Award for Wildlife Photography.  The competition aims to recognise and award amateur photographers, and this year’s theme is ‘Ireland’s Wildlife’.  This leaves the theme wide open to individual interpretation and should provide an interesting array of entries.

DOE Consults on Snare Legislation

The Department of the Environment is consulting on its proposals to make subordinate legislation to further regulate the use of snares in Northern Ireland, through the Snares Order (NI) 2013.
 
The Wildlife and Natural Environment Act (NI) 2011 introduced new controls over the use of snares in NI and during the passage of the Bill there was debate on whether the use of snares should continue to be permitted.
