New NI COVID restrictions to come into force on 27th Nov 2020

The Northern Ireland Executive met on Thursday 19th November and have agreed a further circuit breaker for 2 weeks that comes into effect 00.01 AM on the 27th November until 11th December 2020.

The NI Direct website states the following:

Sport

Indoor and outdoor sport is not permitted, other than at elite level.

Elite sporting events must be held behind closed doors without spectators.

All sports facilities such as leisure centres and gyms, swimming pools, tennis courts, golf courses, fitness and dance studios must close.

Individual/ household outdoor exercise and school PE can continue. Physical activities, such as walking, running, cycling, horse riding, or just walking the dog, bring many health benefits.

Countryside Alliance Ireland does have “deep concerns” at the decision stopping sport and physical activity below elite level as this will have “devastating consequences for the health and wellbeing of the general public especially those living in rural areas.

Many of our members are growing anxious that the continued loss of habitual involvement in sport and physical activity will lead to long term challenges for individuals and local communities.

A number of country sports clubs and syndicates have expressed they are “confident” they can continue their activities safely in “heavily controlled environments” if allowed.

We must however comply fully with the restrictions when they come into force and with hospitals currently operating over capacity we ask members to think very carefully at the risks involved before undertaking any activity during this time.

What does this mean for shooting

.

This unfortunately this means club and syndicate events will not be able to take place during this time.

We currently cannot see any restrictions on taking part in country sports as part of you daily individual or household exercise.

Shooting of vermin (rats/foxes/crows) is permissible as an essential support service to the farming and agriculture profession.

What does this mean for Hunting.

Again this means hunts and point to point events can not take place over this period.

Horse riding as part of your daily individual or household exercise is permitted.

full details of restrictions can be found here

No-one should partake in any form of Country Sports if they have any of the symptoms associated with Covid-19 and should immediately self isolate and follow current government advice.

Please remember if you are out in the countryside the virus can live on gates and other hard surfaces for sometime.
